Globally, there is a critical need to decouple a significant proportion of land area and food production. This is driven by the world population growth from 2 billion to 7.3 billion* in the last ninety years.
In line with the RAW Group’s governing principles of innovative and sustainable development, we hope to alleviate the undersupply of food and contribute to the modernisation of food production in the UK, and further afield.
Increasing food prices and reduced food security have exacerbated in recent years – both nationally and internationally. Meanwhile rising population has added pressure to the demand-side of the market disproportionately. Further, many traditional farming and agricultural practices that our supply chain relies on have also become increasingly unsustainable and ecologically damaging.
Under RAW Energy, Skyfarm Agriculture develop ways for food production processes and facilities to counteract these pressures on the farming sector.
The initiative incorporates hydroponic growing techniques that are now well-understood to be significantly more environmentally friendly and efficient than conventional agricultural practices. Plants grow faster with reduced water use; and the method prevents soil degradation and aquifer contamination.
